It took a while to get the concept of unisex loos through the committee stage – we are so used to the sight of long queues for the ladies’ toilets while the men waltz in and out of the gents’ in a totally carefree manner that it was hard to get to grips with the fact that it needn’t be like this any longer.  As suggested before, if you’re not sure of the concept, take the kids to the Pitt Rivers Museum and see how well it works.

The corridor to the right leads into the youth room.  This plan for toilets is, I am convinced, the way to go.  Although Nick tells me of a building on which he was working behind Tesco in the Cowley Road, where the toilet cubicles were self-sufficient pods, lifted in completely furnished by crane so that only the plumbing remained to be connected.

This current type of prefabricated / SIPs building is incredibly exciting.  And just one of the reasons that, given another life, I’d eschew the role of class rebel, put my head down and study engineering or construction. Or go out and get an apprenticeship and learn on the job.
