Day 53: There will be daylight!

Updates on what’s happening at Dean Court!

How fantastic to approach the site this morning and find the plywood shuttering gone!

When the social club was first designed on the lines of an Alvar Aalto community building, these north-facing top windows would have let in the daylight allowing daytime activities to be held without to need to fumble around finding the light switches.  This will again be the case.  There is, of course, a downside: the building will cost more to heat.  This is perhaps one of the reasons the social club decided to do away with them and put in the false ceiling.

But in the 21st century, technology has moved along, and in the community centre a modern heat exchanger would prove its worth.

As always, it is a matter of cutting the coat to fit the cloth, and with a very tight budget, we decided that we would rather have a building than a dream.  Once the community centre has found its feet and won hearts and minds, though, we will be able to fund raise for such a system.

So let’s all keep the faith, remember the fun day and the AGM (see yesterday’s post) and Kia mataara!
