Meetings before the final plans were agreed had considered the possibility of bringing the whole floor up to the level of the old dance floor, but this would have meant adjusting lintels of doorways throughout the building and would have been a major expense.  The big problem with demolishing the concrete lump was that we didn’t know what we would find underneath and that a whole new can of worms would be revealed . . . although, come to think of it, a can of worms would have been a doddle on a building site!

But, luckily, nothing untoward was discovered. So with an all-over level floor, there should be little problem replacing with a new state-of-the-art multi-purpose one accessible to all.
